Gingerbread Cookie Playdough is soft, squishy, and smells divine! It’s a simple salt dough that will keep little hands busy and perfect for classroom centers or a fun Friday activity.

Did you ever eat playdough as a kid? I never did, but this playdough SMELLS (and kind of looks) good enough to eat. I mean, I don’t recommend it. Salt dough doesn’t taste great… just ask my toddler!
Try out your own holiday playdough for the classroom, or at home with your kids during those l o n g winter break days.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 TBS vegetable oil
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- Ground cinnamon, and/or pumpkin spice blend, ginger, etc. to your liking
Directions:
- Add vegetable oil and water to a large pot.
- Add the dry ingredients to your pot and mix well. Cook low over medium heat until the dough starts to form and becomes dry.
- Once it starts to form a ball, take it off the heat.
- When it is cool, knead for 5 minutes. Store in an airtight container or bag

Other ideas for your dough:
- Add extracts, glitter, or food coloring.
- Make salt dough ornaments: roll out dough and cut out shapes. Make sure to put a hole on top for a hanger. Lay ornaments on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Bake at 250° for 2 hours. Let cool and rub with a small amount of oil to bring the color back
PRO TIP- MIX WELL before getting to medium-low temp. I didn’t mix it well enough before it formed a ball causing some flour lumps in my dough. Learn from me and MIX WELL.
