Scrambled Word Eggs- Sight Word Game

Scrambled Word Eggs- Sight Word Game

Check out the Scrambled Word Egg Download here!

This is a super fun one! I don’t know what it is, but for some reason sight words are a lot more fun when you’re cracking open eggs to practice them! Not only are they working on sight words, but also using some brain power to unscramble them! This is a tall order for some students, so it comes ready to go with ways to scaffold/differentiate the activity. You can also use the editable file to personalize it using your specific words.

Watch it in action at the bottom of this post! The resource has recently been updated!

Prep: Gather 12 plastic eggs. Choose your word list and recording sheets- print and copy or make your own using the included editable file. Cut up sight words from chosen list and put into each egg. I number the eggs and the back of the letters that go inside the corresponding eggs so they won’t get lost or mixed up- it also helps your students know which eggs they’ve already attempted.

In Action: You can play so many different ways! I usually play as a guided small group and level the sight words for each group and scaffold how much help I provide. It can be used with partners, individually, or as a reading center, too!

Students crack the eggs and put the letters together to form a sight word. Afterwards, they record the word on their recording sheet. There are three options: write in the word, trace the word, or color in the word (comes on the editable file).

For more support, use the included sight word list. They can use it to help spell and decipher which words they may be able to make with their letters. Using the recording sheets with the words already there is another way to help students that may struggle.

Includes:

  • 3 recording sheets: write-in, tracing [one for each sight word list], and color-in [one for each sight word list and blan
  • 3 word lists, based on Dolch Pre-Primer and Primer words
  • Scramble words- 3 lists, and blank
  • EDITABLE word lists, recording sheets, and scramble grid
