Grab your Leprechaun Trap WRITING PAGES here!
This mini-project and writing activity gets those kinders really excited- even those kiddos that aren’t particularly excited about writing, ever, love this! Especially if I time it just right… after the sneaky leprechaun, Lucky, visits…and DESTROYS our classroom. That makes them super passionate about catching him.

Needed:
- How to Catch a Leprechaun book
- Leprechaun trap writing pages
- Math tubs/building toys/cups, boxes etc.
Prep- Pick which writing sheet works for your class or print all 3 to make a packet. I placed various math tubs (dominoes, unifix cubes, counting bears, blocks, etc) out on each table.
In Action- Frist, we read How to Catch a Leprechaun and discuss how we would trap a leprechaun and what we’d do if it happened. Then, students get to chose what materials they want to use to to make a trap and if they want to work together or solo. Building commences! I like to play Irish music to set the vibe (isn’t that how we say it these days?). We work on our writing activity- drawing our traps and writing about them. I find it easier for littles to build first, then write and draw rather than pre-plan their creations. It’s up to you! Sometimes I let them keep their traps up all day or overnight… they may even find a gold coin left in it…but never a leprechaun…not yet anyway.

This could also be made into a family project instead of this one. It’s a bit of an intense project, but I am sure you’d get some fabulous products.
Our classroom Leprechaun is named Lucky. Sometimes he’s extra naughty. Other times he is low energy. Pre-Covid, I had parents volunteer to help Lucky set up. Words of the wiser- let them know to skip the glitter and confetti, I REPEAT: NO glitter and confetti. You’ll thank me later. But, if it does happen, I make the kids clean it up and give them an option to keep the special leprechaun trash, er, I mean- magical dust. They fall for it every time (insert evil teacher laughter).
Either way, the kids lose their ever-loving minds! I wish I could show you all of my videos of them going bananas, but there are too many cute little moving kinder heads to try and censor.

Some of Lucky’s more tame shenanigans ^
Have fun celebrating, writing, and building!
PS- March 17th is a day you should definitely double up on the caffeine. It’s wild- lovely and fun too, but wild.
